BILIBILI MACRO LINK – STAR PHASE 2022 (BML SP2022) is a large-scale anisong event organized by Bilibili, a major video distribution platform. This year, the event will be held at Makuhari Messe Event Hall for the first time in Japan with a live audience. This year’s performance will also be streamed overseas. This is one of the biggest events in Asia, bringing together 10 of the leading artists in the anisong industry.

Macross Frontier fans across the world will join together for the livestream concert “MacrossF Galaxy Live 2021 – Revenge”, which will broadcast globally from Makuhari Event Hall in Japan on Wednesday, November 10th, 2021.

The spectacular concert featuring the musical stars of Macross Frontier – May’n as Sheryl Nome and Megumi Nakajima as Ranka Lee – will showcase the powerful and emotional songs that have gained Macross Frontier a massive worldwide fan base. The concert will also be screened in movie theaters across Japan, and overseas viewers can rewatch the concert any time during the 24-hour archive period.

The Macross Frontier anime was created to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the sci-fi series Macross, which has aired continuously in Japan since 1982. Movie adaptations of the series have been screened in theaters as Macross Frontier: The False Songstress and Macross Frontier: The Wings of Goodbye, making it one of the most popular titles in the franchise.

Together, the duo has recorded several memorable songs from the Macross Frontier series which topped the Oricon music charts, such as “Diamond Crevasse”, “Seikan Hikou”, “Northern Cross”, and “Lion”. In 2018, they released the 10th Anniversary single “Good job!” This will be the first time Sheryl and Ranka will perform a livestream concert for a global audience.

The latest film in the series, Macross Frontier: Tokino Meikyu (Labyrinth of Time), will be released in theaters on October 8th, 2021, in Japan. The movie’s theme song “Tokino Meikyu” will be released on November 10th, 2021, the day of the global livestream. This release will be the first single from Macross Frontier in 3 years.

May’n: This is my tenth year performing professionally as May’n, and I’ve been performing mostly high-pitched songs in connection with various anime. Those are all precious to me, but when I began singing I used my lower pitch more, and I wanted to get back in touch with that. I wanted to challenge myself to perform in that style again, and when I became involved with Lord of Vermilion, since it centers on a heavenly battle and it’s kind of an aggressive theme, I felt like this was the perfect chance. So this is a very rare song for me. Another reason I felt strongly about going in this direction is that this anime is about each character finding their roots, finding their destiny. This being my tenth year, I’m also searching to re-energize and re-define myself and my relationship to my fans, so I felt even more strongly about connecting to this theme.

May’n: My career started as Sheryl Nome, and I didn’t try to act like Sheryl on purpose, but I always wanted the audience to think that there’s Sheryl when I sing. So I wanted to be a cool and sexy galactic fairy like her while hiding my teenager-ness. But finally I came to accept my true self recently. Of course I love cool songs, and I want to look cool when performing, but I gained the strength to accept my weakness. It’s not bad to chase your ideal self, but I’m happy to accept that this is “May’n” including my weak points.

On July 6, 2018, anisong fans packed the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles for “Japan Super Live” — the second night of Anisong World Matsuri at Anime Expo 2018 — to see rare U.S. performances by anime superstars May’n, Aimer, Sanketsu-girl Sayuri, and Yuki Kajiura.

May’n charged onto the stage to open the concert and pump up the audience, backed by a full rock band and a squad of dancers. “Are you ready to make some noise? Come on, Los Angeles!” Beginning her set with her high-energy single “Chase the world”, followed by “One In A Billion -May’n Ver.-“, May’n shared her excitement, speaking in English to the thousands of fans in the Microsoft Theater. “Wow! So many, many people,” she said, smiling and waving to the fans in the high mezzanine, “I can see you!”

In Sheryl’s songs, I perform with the feelings Sheryl would show towards the fans that came to her concert. There are always different emotions that come out when I sing the anime theme songs and the original songs, too.
