FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Japanese idol group Wasuta (“The World Standard”) held their 5th Anniversary concert on March 28, 2020, livestreaming the event to a worldwide audience from LINE CLUB SHIBUYA.
The live event, titled “Wasuta 5 sai ni narimashita!” (“Wasuta has turned 5 years old!”), was performed to an empty venue filled with brightly-colored balloons in the seats where fans would have cheered for the group at the sold-out celebration.
Due to the effects of COVID-19, Wasuta announced the cancellation of the live audience, shifting to a worldwide livestream broadcast on the Avex platform “mu-mo LIVE”.
Wasuta performed their full set as planned with multiple costume changes, special videos, and backing music from the NEKONOTE BAND.
Wasuta sang hits from their just-released Wasuta BEST album, such as the anime themes “Saijoukyuu Paradox” (Idol Time PriPara) and “Kira Kira Hologram” (Kiratto Pri☆chan). The idol group also performed a medley of their popular video-game-themed “Uru Choco Trilogy” and delivered the first-ever live performance of “Ima wa Mukashi” from the self-titled first album.
Fans cheered for Wasuta in real time on via Twitter, and the members took out their smartphones during the MC to read out comments to the cameras, emotionally expressing their thanks for the large outpouring of support.
Leader Nanase Hirokawa closed the main performance stating, “So many things have changed in the past five years, but we were able to celebrate our 5th anniversary together with these same five members. I hope you all will continue to support us as go forward into our sixth year!”
Wasuta’s first “best” album, Wasuta BEST – including the new song “Grapefruit Moon” – is now streaming worldwide.
