New York City, September 16, 2026 // Global Citizen — Japan’s biggest rock star, internationally acclaimed composer, pianist, drummer and humanitarian YOSHIKI will make history on September 26 as the first Japanese artist to perform at the Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park, before an anticipated audience of 60,000 people.

YOSHIKI will bring his singular fusion of classical music and rock to one of the world’s most celebrated outdoor stages. The landmark performance represents another major step in his decades-long mission to bring Japanese music and culture to audiences around the world.
The appearance follows an extraordinary period for YOSHIKI, who was named to the 2025 TIME100 list of the world’s most influential people and recently performed two sold-out orchestral concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall. His career has taken him from the Tokyo Dome to Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Wembley Arena, the Royal Albert Hall and Coachella.

Global Citizen announced that YOSHIKI, Victoria Monét, YEONJUN, and Alicia Keys have joined the lineup for this year’s festival. They join previously announced performers Ms. Lauryn Hill & Wyclef Jean, Lenny Kravitz, John Legend, Lainey Wilson, Shaboozey and TOMORROW X TOGETHER.

Additionally, Bill Nye, IZA, Jordan Fisher, Katie Couric, Marcus Samuelsson, Naomi Watanabe, Nomzamo Mbatha, PJ Sin Suela, and Vladimir Duthiers will make appearances, with more names to be announced.

YOSHIKI’s influence extends across generations and genres. Together with X Japan, he helped inspire elements of K-pop’s visual style, theatrical performance, and musical ambition, while songs including “Endless Rain” became widely embraced in South Korea. His continuing connection with a new generation of Asian artists reflects his role as a bridge between Japanese rock and today’s global music culture.

All donations will benefit New York City. Funds raised will support City Parks Foundation’s free programming and community engagement initiatives in parks across all five boroughs, as well as organizations assisting people experiencing homelessness throughout the city.

YOSHIKI Donates €100,000 for France and Spain Wildfire Relief and ¥10 Million for Kumamoto Earthquake Relief in Japan

Donations to the French, Spanish, and Japanese Red Cross support communities affected by disasters across Europe and Japan

YOSHIKI, internationally acclaimed musician, composer, philanthropist, and widely recognized as “Japan’s biggest rock star”, has donated €100,000 to support communities affected by the devastating wildfires in France and Spain and ¥10 million to support relief efforts following the powerful earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan on July 29.
Through his U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Yoshiki Foundation America, YOSHIKI provided €50,000 to the French Red Cross and €50,000 to the Spanish Red Cross to assist emergency response and recovery efforts.

Wildfires continue to intensify across southwestern France, threatening communities near Bordeaux and forcing thousands of residents and visitors to evacuate. YOSHIKI’s donation will help support the French Red Cross response, including:
Emergency shelter and beds
Drinking water
Hygiene kits and other essential supplies
First aid
Support for first responders and displaced families

French Red Cross volunteers are working in emergency shelters and evacuation centers throughout the affected areas, providing immediate assistance to people forced from their homes.
In Spain, the Red Cross is providing emergency assistance to communities affected by the wildfires, supporting displaced residents and helping meet immediate humanitarian needs as fires continue across several regions.

YOSHIKI has also donated ¥10 million to the Japanese Red Cross Society to support people affected by the Kumamoto earthquake. Rescue operations remain underway, and authorities have warned residents to remain alert as aftershocks continue and further strong shaking remains possible.

“Even though I have lived in Los Angeles for many years, Japan will always be my home, and Europe—especially France—has also become another home to me,” YOSHIKI said. “Seeing people in France, Spain, and Japan facing such devastating disasters is heartbreaking. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the wildfires in France and Spain, including those who have lost their homes and the courageous people working on the front lines.

“My thoughts are also with everyone affected by the earthquake in Kumamoto and those waiting for news of loved ones. With aftershocks continuing, please put your safety first. Disasters do not recognize borders, and compassion should not either. I hope these donations provide immediate support, encourage others to help, and remind those affected that they are not alone.”

YOSHIKI’s donations follow a significant month of performances connecting him closely with France and Los Angeles. Earlier this month, he performed at Japan Expo in Paris before traveling directly to Los Angeles for his sold-out two-night debut at Walt Disney Concert Hall on July 16 and 17.

YOSHIKI has longstanding personal, artistic, and creative ties to France. Beyond his recent Paris performance, his connection to the country includes collaborations and ventures with distinguished French names including Champagne Pommery and Baccarat, as well as his fashion brand, MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS.

Through YOSHIKI Foundation America, YOSHIKI has supported disaster relief, humanitarian aid, medical research, education, and organizations assisting children and families around the world.

In 2025, he contributed $500,000 to Los Angeles wildfire relief through seven organizations, including the American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen, MusiCares, Cedars-Sinai, the Motion Picture & Television Fund, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Foundation, and the Entertainment Community Fund. One of the concerts’ most electrifying moments came when YOSHIKI and Davis radically reimagined Korn’s “Freak on a Leash” with orchestra. YOSHIKI opened the song at the piano before moving to the drums for its thunderous climax as Davis’s unmistakable voice reverberated through the hall.

Originally released on VHS and LaserDisc in 1993, the music videos feature chart-topping songs written by YOSHIKI, accompanied by artwork from CLAMP and an animated music video co-produced by MADHOUSE.

The project stands as a pioneering work from the dawn of collaborations between manga creators and musical artists. The accompanying video release and its animated music video, “X”, serve as the origin of animated music videos featuring musical artists.

X2 – Double X was a collaboration between X (now X JAPAN) and the manga X/1999, which began serialization in 1992 by CLAMP. The project was titled “Double X” to reflect the unprecedented collaboration between X JAPAN and CLAMP’s X/1999, as well as the artists’ desire to create the definitive “Double X” experience.

The VHS release sold out instantly, and it has become a collector’s item in recent decades for fans of rock and anime, since it has never been officially released on digital platforms.

Led by YOSHIKI, X JAPAN is the most successful rock group in Japanese history, selling more than 30 million albums, singles, and videos combined. In the band’s early days, their look and sound sparked a global interest in the Japanese cultural rock phenomenon “Visual Kei”, a movement led by X Japan which spread worldwide.

CLAMP is one of the world’s best-selling creative collectives, celebrated internationally for landmark manga series including Cardcaptor Sakura, xxxHOLiC, Tokyo Babylon, and X/1999. MADHOUSE is the acclaimed Japanese animation studio behind anime classics including Death Note, Perfect Blue, Paprika, Ninja Scroll, and Hunter × Hunter.

The release is widely celebrated as a foundational milestone in the music video OVA (Original Video Animation) genre. Three of the music videos use a “slide show”/”motion comic” style to pair CLAMP’s gothic imagery with X Japan songs “Silent Jealousy”, “Kurenai”, and “Endless Rain”. The fourth song, “X”, used all-new animation footage (directed by award-winning anime director Rintaro) to match the raw, exciting energy of the legendary heavy metal song.

This monumental project paved the way for the 1996 anime feature film X (which used “Forever Love” as its theme song) and created a massive cultural event in Japan at the peak of the 1990s “Visual Kei” and manga explosion. At the time, X JAPAN had just completed three consecutive sold-out nights at the Tokyo Dome (the first Japanese band to ever do so), and CLAMP was redefining the manga industry with X/1999, which has since sold over 12 million copies.

YOSHIKI has composed theme songs for several anime titles, including Attack on Titan, Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary, Buddha: The Great Departure, X2 – Double X, the official “Hello Kitty Theme Song”, and more. NEW YORK, NY – YOSHIKI, Japan’s biggest rock star and world-renowned composer, pianist, drummer, and founder of X Japan, will be honored with the Entertainment Community Fund Medal of Honor, making him the first Japanese musician to receive the recognition in the award’s 116-year history. The honor will be presented at the Fund’s Annual Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street in Manhattan on June 1, 2026, in New York City.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Entertainment Community Fund Medal of Honor,” said YOSHIKI. “Music has the power to heal, unite, and inspire. Through my foundation, I have always believed in using my platform to support those in need, especially fellow artists and entertainment professionals facing challenges. This award belongs to everyone who has supported me, and to every artist who dares to cross the borders between cultures and genres.”

Inaugurated on May 9, 1910, when it was first presented to U.S. President William Howard Taft, the Medal of Honor represents the highest recognition bestowed by the Entertainment Community Fund upon individuals who enrich the global arts community. Past recipients include icons such as Denzel Washington, Robert Redford, Uma Thurman, Audrey Hepburn, Robert De Niro, and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, a lineage of the highest tier of American entertainment achievement to which YOSHIKI is now the first Asian recipient ever added.

Annette Bening, Chair of the Board of the Entertainment Community Fund, praised this year’s honorees in an official statement: “We are so thrilled to honor the incredible cast from HBO Original The Gilded Age, Daryl Roth, and YOSHIKI with this year’s Medal of Honor. Named to the TIME100 list of the most influential people in the world in 2025, YOSHIKI has sold more than 50 million albums and singles worldwide and is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers in history. A classically trained pianist and rock drummer, he has performed at Carnegie Hall, composed the theme for the Golden Globe Awards, and was the first Japanese artist to be immortalized with a hand-and-footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

The Medal of Honor recognition equally honors YOSHIKI’s decades of philanthropy. Through Yoshiki Foundation America, he has provided critical support to global causes including disaster relief, mental health awareness, and emergency aid across four continents. This includes a major $500,000 donation in 2025 to support victims of the Los Angeles wildfires, with funds directed to the Entertainment Community Fund, MusiCares, and the American Red Cross.

Immediately following his $100,000 donation to the Hong Kong Red Cross for victims of the tragic fire at Wang Fuk Court in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district, YOSHIKI has committed an additional $100,000 to flood relief efforts, bringing his recent Southeast Asian disaster relief total to $200,000.

“I am deeply saddened by the reports of flood damage affecting Thailand and Indonesia. Robert Mondavi Jr. Joins for Global Launch
Also taking the stage in Tokyo was YOSHIKI’s winemaking partner, Robert Mondavi Jr., whose family is synonymous with Napa Valley. Together they announced the release of three new vintages from the Y by YOSHIKI California series: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Rosé. Mondavi highlighted the distinctive character of these new wines and reflected on his ongoing creative partnership with YOSHIKI. The new vintages will be released globally on Wednesday, September 24.

Y by YOSHIKI Members Club: A New Wine Subscription Service
In addition, YOSHIKI announced the launch of “Y by YOSHIKI Members Club,” a subscription service designed to meet surging demand and make his wines more accessible to fans and collectors. The program will offer two tiers:

• Smart Casual Club – Designed for everyday enjoyment, with access to newsletters, online content, and regular deliveries of Y by YOSHIKI wines.
• Masterpiece Club – An exclusive tier offering early access to limited releases and luxury wines, including rare California vintages, premium champagnes, and fast-selling collector’s items such as the just-announced “Yoshitomo Nara Collaboration Wine” and the “Domaine Takahiko Collaboration Wine” produced in Yoichi, Hokkaido.

The Members Club and its dedicated app will officially launch in Japan on Tuesday, September 30, with pre-registration beginning Thursday, August 28. The first shipments are scheduled for mid-November, with plans for global expansion to follow.

YOSHIKI announced at a press conference held at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo, that he will be performing a special concert at Hegra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in AlUla, Saudi Arabia, on November 20. This will be his first international show since undergoing his third neck surgery last October.

The performance, entitled “Hegra Candlelit Classics”, will take place on a stage lit by thousands of candles, with ancient tombs built approximately 2,000 years ago, as its backdrop. YOSHIKI, a leading Japanese composer, pianist, and drummer, has sold out some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London, and has received acclaim for his outstanding performances. This upcoming show will be unique and unlike any other in the world, where guests will experience YOSHIKI’s captivating performance and music that blends Rock and Classical Music, in a setting surrounded by historical ruins.

Also appearing on the first half of the show will be Grammy-nominated, world-renowned trumpet player Ibrahim Maalouf, who has captivated audiences at festivals around the world. YOSHIKI will be closing out the show.

In April 2025, YOSHIKI was selected as one of TIME magazine’s “TIME 100 (the 100 most influential people in the world)” and in 2024, he became the first Japanese artist to have his handprints and footprints imprinted at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. He has consistently been active globally in a wide range of fields, including fashion, film, wine production, and charity work (through his 501(c)(3) Yoshiki Foundation America).

In the press conference, YOSHIKI said, “As many of you may know, I underwent neck surgery last October and am currently undergoing careful rehabilitation. I was still considering how to proceed with my concert activities, so honestly, I was hesitant when I received this offer. However, I decided to go ahead with the concert because I felt that this performance had great significance and could potentially lead to future exchanges between Japan and Saudi Arabia. I am extremely honored and excited to be able to perform at such a historic venue. I owe it all to my fans.” He spoke passionately, expressing his excitement for his concert, which began with a special offer from Saudi Arabia and was realized after over a year of negotiations.

The show will also be a special day for YOSHIKI, as he will be celebrating his birthday. The highly exclusive stage has been graced only by world-renowned artists such as Andrea Bocelli and Ludovico Einaudi, and YOSHIKI has been appointed to join the honorary list. The music, played in the ancient ruins lit by thousands of candles, will undoubtedly be etched deeply in people’s memories, transcending culture and time.

At the end of the press conference, YOSHIKI gave a special performance on the piano. “I wish it would rain peace all over the world. I’d like to play ‘Endless Rain’, which I also hope to perform in Saudi Arabia,” he said, and the melody he played deeply moved the large crowd of fans and press.

Rock icon YOSHIKI’s alter ego – the only Sanrio character based on a real person – returns for the eleventh year in the fan-favorite Sanrio Character Ranking, with global voting opening April 10 at 11:00 a.m. Japan time.

TOKYO, JAPAN (April 10, 2025) – Yoshikitty, the beloved Sanrio character inspired by international music icon YOSHIKI, has once again been selected to participate in the Sanrio Character Ranking, marking her 11th consecutive year as one of only 90 characters chosen from Sanrio’s roster of over 450, joining other fan favorites such as Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, and Pompompurin. The 2025 contest, which also celebrates the 40th anniversary of the global fan-favorite ranking, opens for voting on April 10 at 11:00 a.m. Japan Standard Time and runs through May 25. The official voting portal is now live at https://ranking.sanrio.co.jp/en/characters/yoshikitty/ and fans can vote for yoshikitty once daily from all their devices.

Created in 2009, yoshikitty is the first and only Sanrio character modeled after a real person – YOSHIKI himself: composer, drummer, pianist, fashion icon, and founder of the legendary rock band X Japan. Yoshikitty blends Sanrio’s beloved charm with YOSHIKI’s unmistakable presence and message of individuality and creative freedom.

Since her entry into the Sanrio Character Ranking in 2015, yoshikitty has built a passionate international following.
