Yoshiki will be presented with Variety‘s 2024 International Achievement in Music honor. The presentation will take place at the eighth annual Hitmakers celebration on Dec. 7 in Los Angeles, presented by AFEELA.
In the March 27, 2024 issue of Variety, Yoshiki was honored as Variety‘s 2024 International Achievement in Music honor, celebrating his prolific career as an artist, humanitarian, and philanthropist. Yoshiki is the first musical artist from Asia to receive this accolade, and joins the prestigious list of previous recipients including Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé and Bad Bunny.
“Yoshiki’s decades of artistic excellence include genre-spanning music collaborations, documentary filmmaking and groundbreaking fashion endeavors. He has also consistently provided critical leadership in the cause of hugely impactful philanthropic efforts,” said Variety’s executive vice president of content Steven Gaydos. “We’re thrilled to present Yoshiki with the 2024 Variety International Achievement in Music award at our 8th Annual Hitmakers event.”
Since the start of his career as leader of rock group X Japan, Yoshiki has charted a path all his own, most recently exploring new creative endeavors in film with his directorial debut in “Yoshiki: Under the Sky” (distributed by Magnolia Pictures), as well as in fashion with the launch of his fashion line Maison Yoshiki Paris, which debuted on the runway during Milan Fashion Week and showed this fall at Paris Fashion Week.
Yoshiki was scheduled to be presented with the award at a Variety event earlier in the year but had to reschedule. Variety is pleased to make the presentation as a special addition to its Hitmakers event, which looks back on the year in music celebrating the writers, producers, publishers, managers and executives who helped make — and break — the 25 most-consumed songs of the year, as measured by Billboard and Luminate Charts. Hitmakers honorees include Hitmaker of the Year Charlie xcx, Changemaker of the Year Jelly Roll, Humanitarian of the Year Quavo, and Triple Threat RAYE.
This year’s event sponsors include Presenting Partner AFEELA, a mobility brand developed by Sony Honda Mobility Inc. They will showcase its prototype vehicle of their brand AFEELA and offer exclusive hands-on demos to attendees, providing a unique, up-close experience with the future of mobility. AFEELA will also present the Newcomers Award to Shaboozey and Benson Boone. Spotify will be an official partner of the event with a Spotify Correspondent on the red carpet.

Paris Jackson walks the runway in surprise appearance along with Grace Johnson, Georgia Palmer, Maggie Maurer, Lindsey Wixson and more
Rebel Wilson, Hiroshi Fujiwara, and more attend
The MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS Spring 2025 collection – designed by global superstar YOSHIKI – was shown in Palais de Chaillot on September 30th during Paris Fashion Week after a very successful debut at Milan Fashion Week earlier this year. Model and actress Paris Jackson made a surprise appearance walking in two designs alongside models Grace Johnson, Georgia Palmer, Maggie Maurer, Lindsey Wixson and more, with celebrities including actress Rebel Wilson and streetwear legend Hiroshi Fujiwara in attendance.
As a counterpoint to his dramatic all black Fall Winter 2024 collection, MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS Spring Summer 2025 asserts lightness featuring white as the base tone along with black accompanied by accents of pastels colors such as pistachio, and pastel lemon. Strikes of black and gold paint on white fabric are inspired by German-Franco Lyrical Abstractionist, Hans Hartung, while a nod to American Pop-Art from the 60’s is found in the final looks closing the show: a series of simple geometric shift dresses featuring a jacquard fabric with YOSHIKI’s portrait.
MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS fuses YOSHIKI’s visions of fashion, design, and lifestyle with glamorous and genderless designs. The Spring Summer 2025 show featured 33 looks.
The collection exclusively uses French luxury fabrics, from thick cotton twill, cotton/linen blend tweed with iridescent accents, double silk organza, poplin and Ruschel knit lace with a rich textured hand. The shapes are modern and edgy, accentuated by strategically positioned stitching and black contrasting zippers. There are references to the world of traditional kimonos which YOSHIKI has been experimenting with through his fashion line Yoshikimono, launched in 2011, and that are now are revisited though an even more contemporary and international lens.
The jewelry throughout the collection has been designed exclusively for MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS by Juana Martín and features whimsical oversized musical notes and letters charms made in 14K gold.

YOSHIKI has postponed his third cervical spine surgery until October in order to proceed with the remaining eight dinner shows at the Tokyo Grand Hyatt, his upcoming commitments including his visit to Saudi Arabia, and the scheduled fan meetings around the world as planned.
Tickets for the Esports World Cup are currently on sale and visiting Boulevard City is free of charge. The games will be streamed worldwide on the sports broadcasting service DAZN.
Multiple doctors have determined that YOSHIKI of X JAPAN must undergo his third neck surgery immediately. However, due to his schedule commitments over the next two months, YOSHIKI will undertake cervical artificial disc replacement surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, California, on October 8.
Currently, YOSHIKI is suffering from chronic neck pain and a burning sensation in his left hand including his fingers, causing problems with not only performance but everyday activities. Physicians in the U.S. are hopeful that surgery on cervical discs C6-C7 can restore YOSHIKI’s health and have insisted that the musician adjust his demanding schedule for this important procedure.
YOSHIKI’s intense performance style as a rock drummer and classical pianist has had a severe impact on his physical health.
In 2009, he was diagnosed with cervical foraminal stenosis, leading to a cervical laminectomy and a cervical foraminotomy.
In 2017, YOSHIKI underwent a second surgery after suffering from a herniated disc and experiencing numbness and severe paralysis of the left hand and arm. The procedure resulted in the insertion of an artificial cervical disc in his neck.
YOSHIKI said, “This will be my third neck surgery. I started feeling this pain last year, then it increased severely during the past few months. Right now, I cannot feel my left hand and I’m having severe burning sensations in my left fingers. Fortunately, my motor neurons are still intact but the sensory nerves are damaged. Everything I touch feels like ice, including my piano keys. It’s unbearable. I know I should have this surgery immediately, but I need to honor the commitments I’ve already made to my fans and friends. Over the next two months, I have to cancel a significant amount of my schedule, but I will still make a few appearances. In terms of playing piano in my shows, I may have to use my right hand more than my left hand because of the pain. Then, in October, I have to cancel pretty much all my schedule. I know this will affect many people. I’m very sorry for this. After my surgery, I hope that I can get back to life, including being on stage, before the end of the year. Again, I apologize to everyone for the inconvenience, and I really appreciate all my fans’ support.”
Doctor Todd Lanman, M.D., the spinal neurosurgeon who will operate on YOSHIKI, said, “YOSHIKI has already had a cervical artificial disc replacement in C5-C6. After evaluating the MRI, CT scans, and X-rays, we see a spur in the right C5 affecting the nerve ridge and a protruding disc in C6-C7. More importantly, we also see that C5-C6 is fused and not moving, and that’s exerting exceptional pressure below at C6-C7 and generating a significant amount of pain.”
Doctor Lanman added, “During the procedure, a plastic surgeon will open the incision in the front of YOSHIKI’s neck, and once he gets through the skin, I’ll take over and operate on the spine. After the procedure, the plastic surgeon will close the area immediately to reduce visible scarring.”
Dr. Tommy Tomizawa, M.D., adds “I oversee YOSHIKI’s health in the U.S. Unfortunately, he will be going through severe pain for the next two months. In order to delay the operation, we will mitigate that pain as much as possible through medication and therapy. His commitment as a performer is second to none. Unfortunately, this dedication has caused a significant amount of damage to his body. It’s clear that YOSHIKI’s pain will only increase if we don’t intervene immediately.”
Doctors anticipate YOSHIKI will need several months to recover and gradually restart his physical activities, and he will remain under close medical supervision after the procedure. Following the operation, YOSHIKI will consult with doctors about resuming live performances.
In 2023 alone, YOSHIKI pushed himself to maintain a non-stop recording and event schedule, including producing the boy band XY, touring with his band THE LAST ROCKSTARS, ongoing philanthropic activities including donations for disaster relief in Japan, for mental health causes in the U.S. and humanitarian aid in Europe, while preparing multiple product releases including “Y by Yoshiki” wine, his new Rosé Champagne, and launching his high-fashion brand “Maison Yoshiki Paris” which debuted at Milan Fashion Week.
YOSHIKI also performed the Yoshiki Classical World Tour with headlining shows at Royal Albert Hall (London), Dolby Theater (L.A.), and Carnegie Hall (New York), and more last year.
At the same time, YOSHIKI also released his feature film directorial debut YOSHIKI: Under the Sky in the U.S., Europe, and Japan. He was also invited to perform the U.S. national anthem at Dodger Stadium in L.A. this spring.
As of now, Yoshiki is committed to doing 13 shows and multiple appearances around the world including Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the U.S. during the upcoming months of August and September.
In 2023, YOSHIKI was selected as the first Japanese artist to be honored with a hand and footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood in nearly 100 years.
Following YOSHIKI’s operation, a discussion whether to cancel, postpone, or move forward as scheduled will be held amongst the agent, promoter, and management.
YOSHIKI is in close talks with his U.S. agency WME to schedule future tours accordingly.
We deeply apologize for the inconvenience this will cause to fans and everyone involved.

YOSHIKI to Present “The World’s Most Luxurious Dinner Show” in August — Overwhelming Demand for Premiere VIP Packages Sets Record High; Special Tickets Announced for Overseas Fans
Worldwide Streaming of X Japan Music and Spring World Tour for THE LAST ROCKSTARS Announced at International Press Conference in Tokyo
YOSHIKI will host his annual “Evening/Breakfast with YOSHIKI 2024” dinner show in August at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo, offering a total of ten performances for the annual event which has continually set the bar for quality and elegance at exclusive artist events. The announcement was made at a May 17 press conference in Tokyo attended virtually by media from North America, South America, and Asia.
YOSHIKI’s dinner show tickets famously sell out immediately after they go on sale each year. Fans rushed to purchase tickets last year when the first pre-sale lottery opened, and the situation this year is expected to be just as competitive.
Additionally, in response to strong requests for premiere tickets, a limited number of VIP Premium Package tickets will be available for 300,000 yen per seat – a record price for a dinner show by a Japanese artist. The ticket guarantees a stage front table and a photo shoot with YOSHIKI by a professional photographer.
The dinner shows also serve as fund-raising events for his 501(c)(3) charity organization Yoshiki Foundation America, which gives aid to mental health organizations and disaster relief efforts across the world.
Visitors from overseas are increasing year by year because of YOSHIKI’s active role on the world stage. In 2023, YOSHIKI made his directorial debut with the documentary YOSHIKI: Under the Sky and became the first Japanese artist to be honored with a hand and footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. In 2024, his high-fashion brand MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS opened Milan Fashion Week, and he was recently awarded with Variety magazine’s prestigious International Achievement in Music. In April, he captivated audiences worldwide with his performance of the U.S. national anthem at Dodger Stadium, home to Japanese baseball stars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
The pre-sale lottery is available now for YOSHIKI Rakuten Card holders, followed by opportunities for YOSHIKI Visa/Mastercard holders, YOSHIKI Mobile, new platform Yoshiki+, YOSHIKI CHANNEL members, foreign residents, and TEAM YOSHIKI members.
YOSHIKI will celebrate the tenth anniversary of his annual dinner shows, which have been held 75 times since their launch in 2014. The show garners attention each year as “the world’s most luxurious dinner show” featuring an exclusive performance and banter by YOSHIKI, souvenirs including Y by YOSHIKI wine, and a full-course meal curated by the artist. The show also includes a YOSHIKIMONO fashion show, a ballet performance, a charity auction of the artist’s personal items, and a collaborative performance with yoshikitty. The highlight of the show again this year will be YOSHIKI’s walkabout through the audience and the curtain call allowing fans to get close to the artist and directly show their appreciation.
YOSHIKI will be focusing on music composition and his health this year and will not be holding his traditional autumn classical concerts. The dinner show will be his first and final solo show for 2024.
This press conference was YOSHIKI’s first public appearance since his health troubles and hospitalization in Tokyo in late April. He told reporters that he collapsed after returning from overseas and was unable to sleep on his own.
YOSHIKI said, “I was diagnosed with general malaise and sleep disorders caused by extreme fatigue and stress,” he recalled. “I also learned in the hospital that I was suffering from malnutrition. Fortunately, thanks to the help of many wonderful doctors, I am now on my way to recovery. The best thing would really have been to take a break from my career, but that would be even more stressful for me. In the end, my doctors said that I should be fine as long as I got enough rest, so I’ve been resuming my activities little by little.” On a humorous note, he revealed that while he was in the hospital, he asked if he could put a piano with a mute system in his room, but he was told that would take away the whole point of the hospitalization, which had the reporters laughing.
YOSHIKI spoke enthusiastically about the upcoming dinner shows. “I want to give audiences a special experience that would be impossible in an arena or stadium, something only a small venue can provide. I always try to challenge myself at dinner shows, like announcing new songs or fashion designs. I want everyone to get the total experience of the show. I want fans to enjoy the classical element like the great dinner with wine and champagne, and the rock element like fashion. I’m being careful to pace myself in my preparations so that I’m in good shape for the shows.”
Sampling the planned dessert menu for the show at the photo session, he was asked his impression. “I feel like my blood sugar count went through the roof,” he laughed.
YOSHIKI further announced the launch of his innovative fan community platform “YOSHIKI+ (Plus)”. In addition to priority reservations for competitive concert tickets, fans will be able to access AI and YOSHIKI Channel content.
In addition, YOSHIKI announced a world tour for his band THE LAST ROCKSTARS, scheduled for spring 2025, including performances in Japan, Asia, North America, Central and South America, and Europe.
YOSHIKI also revealed that the music of X JAPAN and YOSHIKI will begin streaming on major international platforms starting July 2024, giving even more fans around the world access to the singer’s music.

JAPAN HOUSE LOS ANGELES ANNOUNCES US DEBUT OF
YOSHIKI’S PERSONAL “yoshikitty” DOLLS
AT “YES, KAWAII IS ART -EXPRESS YOURSELF-” EXHIBITION
“yoshikitty” is First Sanrio Character Based on Real Person,
Modeled After JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles Advisor and International Music Icon
JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles and international music icon YOSHIKI jointly present “yoshikitty” dolls during the “Yes, KAWAII is Art -EXPRESS YOURSELF-” exhibition currently open in Hollywood. The limited-time display from May 16 to August 31, 2024, marks the U.S. debut of the first Sanrio character to be modeled after a real person – YOSHIKI.
YOSHIKI, who recently became the first Japanese artist to receive the globally recognized hand and footprints at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, was appointed an official advisor to JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles in 2023 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and has been connected to the cultural project since performing at the grand opening in 2018.
JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles invited YOSHIKI to display his personal “yoshikitty” dolls as his global achievements embody the exhibition’s concept, where “King of Kawaii” Sebastian Masuda highlights the evolution of Japanese kawaii culture into a global phenomenon encompassing fashion, art, technology, and even social behavior. The appearance of “yoshikitty” is accompanied by special video commentary by Hello Kitty designer, Yuko Yamaguchi.
The rare dolls, dressed in outfits inspired by YOSHIKI’s classic stage performances, have never officially been presented before in the U.S. The unique character is currently competing in the global Sanrio Character Ranking for the 10th consecutive year. In regional voting, “yoshikitty” has been ranked #1 in Brazil, China, France, Germany, and Thailand.
“YOSHIKI continues to serve as a bridge between Japan and the world with this latest collaboration,” said Yuko Kaifu, president, JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles. “We’re delighted to have ‘yoshikitty’ make a rare appearance at our current exhibition, which brings together Sebastian Masuda’s multiple artworks while introducing his personal story of sharing kawaii with the world. The multimedia presentation gives a deep dive look at the origins of the colorful kawaii style, beyond its perception as a fashion look or trend.”

YOSHIKI said, “I have performed many concerts in Taiwan. My heart hurts when I think about the feelings of all the fans and the victims of the disaster. I would like to express my deepest sympathies to everyone affected by this disaster. I pray that peaceful days will return as soon as possible.”
In January of this year, YOSHIKI, donated 10 million yen in support of the Japanese earthquake victims, and also put his beloved crystal piano up for charity auction, donating the winning bid of 40 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
YOSHIKI and YOSHIKI FOUNDATION AMERICA
YOSHIKI’s donation continues the acclaimed musician’s humanitarian work, which includes charitable support for numerous international emergencies, such as $100,000 in disaster relief for Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas in 2017 and $100,000 to combat wildfires in the Amazon rainforest in 2019. In 2020, he donated $100,000 to the Australian Red Cross and the Rainforest Trust’s Conservation Action Fund to aid bushfire victims.
YOSHIKI has provided support to areas affected by earthquakes and other disasters many times, and in 1995, after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, he donated pianos to elementary and junior high schools in the affected areas. In 2009, he donated musical instruments and a music room to the area affected by the Sichuan earthquake in China and invited children orphaned by the earthquake to a concert held by X Japan.

Immediately after the disaster, he donated a total of more than 13 million yen, including the proceeds from the auction of his crystal piano. In 2015, he donated more than 28 million yen in proceeds from X JAPAN’s recovery-from-earthquake concert, and in 2016, he donated more than 6 million yen in proceeds from the auction of his drum set. In addition, a donation of 10 million yen was also made after the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, the 2018 Hokkaido Iburi East earthquake, and the 2019 Typhoons number 15 and number 19 respectively. In 2020, he donated 10 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society to support the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, nine years after the disaster.
In 2021, YOSHIKI established an annual grant of $100,000 for MusiCares®, a partner of the Recording Academy®, to help music creators and industry professionals affected by mental health concerns. Previously, YOSHIKI donated $100,000 to MusiCares to help music professionals affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Between 2022 and 2023, he donated a total of 30 million yen to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for the growing number of displaced persons in Ukraine and neighboring countries.
YOSHIKI is internationally recognized for his long-term philanthropic activities and has donated over 2 million dollars to charity through Yoshiki Foundation America. For his prolific philanthropic endeavors, he was chosen by Forbes as one of “Asia’s Top 30 Heroes of Philanthropy” in 2019 and received a Medal of Honor from the Japanese Government in 2021 for his support of the National Center for Global Health and Medicine and ongoing charitable works.

Statement from YOSHIKI:
MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS is a structure that will bring together all my creative activities in fashion, design, and lifestyle.
It’s the logical extension of Yoshikimono, which I created in 2011 and which until now focused on the art of the kimono, which was revisited in an edgy and contemporary way at the various Tokyo Fashion Weeks.
MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS, which has a more international vision, shares the values that are precious to me personally: sustainability, upcycling, short production circuits and, of course, genderless.
My personal relationship with fashion started when I was a child. My father ran a luxury kimono business and I’ve always been surrounded by textiles, craftsmanship and a real sense of elegance. Of course, as an artist, I’ve always taken care to look after my appearance and my looks, so I’ve always been interested in the international avant-garde fashion. From the outset, I’ve followed the collections of Alexander McQueen, Dior, Saint Laurent, and Versace, whom I’ve always admired, as well as other designers I like and wear.
Milan has always been a great source of inspiration for me. Its architecture, culture, museums and of course concert halls. In the context of MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS, Milan is undoubtedly the world’s fashion business capital with the greatest international artistic influences.
Obviously, the main sector of activity for MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS will be fashion. A range of women’s ready-to-wear but also genderless. Complete with the development of essential accessories such as shoes, bags and jewelry from the very first collection. Season after season, the range of products will grow in order to respond as much as possible to the different desires of my clients and customers (sunglasses, underwear …)
The next step for MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS is decisive: on February 20 at 8PM, the first show for my brand will happen during Milan Fashion Week. I’m going to do everything I can to make it edgy, striking, with a very spectacular impact on the public. In fact, it will be the starting point for the entire development of my fashion brand MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS.
The collection is feminine but also genderless with a very contemporary, edgy style and a touch of rock n roll which has always been important to me. In my opinion, it’s extremely creative, with a very showy finish. All the materials are very high-end, natural, and Italian or French. The collection currently consists of 37 looks, comprising a comprehensive range of products, all in black with subtle red accents.
The silhouettes are elongated, structured, and powerful. The range of materials includes a patchwork of smooth or tailored silk, silk velvet, faux fur, dry and stretch wools, and oversized sequins, creating a rhythmic stride for those who wear them. Naturally, denim features prominently in my collection, which I have chosen to reinterpret in various stages. I have created 8 spectacular silhouettes in collaboration with one of the best couture houses.
As for accessories, boots, glasses, and gloves have been meticulously handmade, along with the jewelry. Additionally, sneakers have been developed in partnership with the Japanese brand Grounds, a brand I admire.
I will choose MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS muses and ambassadors from the artists and singers of the new generation, whose style and personality will be most in tune with my ambition and vision.
In addition to its development in fashion, MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS will also be tackling lifestyle in collaboration with specialist French houses. For example, a collection of water glasses, wine glasses and champagne glasses will soon be launched in collaboration with BACCARAT. This is a collaborative project with the BACCARAT. Of course, this is directly linked to my work with Rob Mondavi, Jr. in Napa for my wines and my partnership with Pommery for my own champagne. I have always dreamed of offering my guests a prestigious glass service representative of my vision and made by the greatest French crystal maker.
New High Fashion Brand “MAISON YOSHIKI Paris” Designed by International Rock Star YOSHIKI Will Debut as Part of Official Calendar for Milano Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024/2025
YOSHIKI’s upcoming fashion brand MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS has been selected by Camera Nazionale Della Moda Italiana as part of the official calendar for Milano Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024/2025 in the major Fashion Events section. The show will take place on February 20th at 8:30pm at Bocconi University, a major cultural, artistic and fashion center in Milan which won the World Building of the Year architectural prize and has hosted major events for Gucci, Max Mara, and Versace. (Official Calendar)
YOSHIKI’s cutting-edge line – announced at a press conference in Paris last year – is the latest move in the world of high fashion by the iconic musician, designer, and filmmaker.
MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS will fuse YOSHIKI’s visions of fashion, design, and lifestyle with RTW glamorous and genderless designs. The line is expected to debut with over 30 looks.

YOSHIKI Auctions Beloved Crystal Piano to Support Victims of Japan Earthquake, Raising 40 Million Yen
International Superstar Said at the Historical TCL Chinese Theatre Hand and Footprint Unveiling Ceremony: “I want to expand the circle of support.”
International superstar YOSHIKI auctioned his beloved crystal piano this week, with the winning bid reaching 40 million yen (over $270,000 USD) when the 4-day auction ended on January 16.
YOSHIKI announced the auction on January 9 at his ceremony at TCL Chinese Theatre, where his cement handprints and footprints were unveiled at the forecourt of the Hollywood landmark. YOSHIKI is the first Japanese star to receive the rare honor from the Chinese Theatre since the tradition began nearly 100 years ago.
The classically-trained pianist and composer’s Kawai CR-40N piano had been used for recording in his Los Angeles studio and for tours. YOSHIKI said a final farewell to the donated piano with a performance during the TCL Chinese Theatre ceremony: “I’m a little sad to say goodbye to my crystal piano, which is like family to me, but I think some people will be saved by this. Please cherish it.”

During the ceremony, YOSHIKI said, “This year, on January first, came more sad news, a huge earthquake struck Japan. It hits me so hard. I’d like to share this moment with those who are mourning loved ones lost. If I may, I’d like to take the opportunity of this special event to give something back, as I’ve done before.”
YOSHIKI also donated 10 million yen earlier this month to the Japanese Red Cross to aid disaster relief through his 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Yoshiki Foundation America. YOSHIKI said, “I want to spread awareness and expand the circle of support. I sincerely hope that everyone in the disaster-stricken areas can return to their normal lives as soon as possible.”
Donations can be sent to the Japanese Red Cross through Yoshiki Foundation America’s website:
https://yoshikifoundationamerica.org/donate.html
One hundred percent of the proceeds from both of YOSHIKI’s donations, a total of 50 million yen (over $340,000 USD), will support victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake which occurred earlier this month in Japan. Over 1900 people in the region are still stranded without power, food, or medicine.
He provided continuous support after the 2011 Great East Japan earthquake.
Most recently, between 2022 and 2023, he donated a total of 30 million yen to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for the growing number of displaced persons in Ukraine and neighboring countries.
In 2021, YOSHIKI established an annual grant of $100,000 for MusiCares®, a partner of the Recording Academy®, to help music creators and industry professionals affected by mental health concerns.
TCL Chinese Theatre Unveils International Superstar and Filmmaker YOSHIKI’s Handprints and Footprints in Special Ceremony
YOSHIKI is First Japanese Artist to be Honored by the Theatre Since Tradition Began in Nearly 100 Years
Legendary Japanese musician and first-time director YOSHIKI’s cement handprints and footprints were unveiled at a special ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on January 9th. YOSHIKI is the first Japanese artist to receive the rare honor from the Chinese Theatre since the tradition began nearly 100 years ago.
YOSHIKI was introduced by Matt Pinfield, distinguished radio host on KLOS-FM, L.A.’s top rock station, before his tablet was permanently placed in the theatre’s forecourt at 6925 Hollywood Blvd.
YOSHIKI’s cement prints were placed directly next to those of Kobe Bryant and Jennifer Aniston, in the same area of the courtyard as Tom Hanks, Kevin Costner, Johnny Depp, Robert de Niro, and Al Pacino.
Brett Fellman, TCL Chinese Theatre’s President of Film and Marketing, said, “We were so excited to do this special unveiling. There was a lot of anticipation for this event from the fans who visit our theatre daily from around the world. We expect this to be one of our most popular attractions.”
Eager fans from around the globe lined up hours before sunrise to get a close view of the international superstar as he celebrated the historic event surrounded by friends and colleagues from the entertainment industry.
YOSHIKI’s international popularity has exploded, and the musician was recently chosen by entertainment giant Sanrio to create the worldwide theme song for Hello Kitty’s 50th anniversary celebration this year, which will be released this spring.
YOSHIKI is one of just over 300 artists in the nearly 100-year history of the iconic Chinese Theatre to receive this prestigious honor. He was selected as “one of the most influential musicians and composers in Japanese history” and in recognition of his achievements in music, fashion, and film over decades, as well as for his continued philanthropic efforts.
Demand to see the legendary artist was so high that large black curtains were placed at the entrance to the forecourt to prevent crowds from disrupting traffic on Hollywood Boulevard.
YOSHIKI said, “I just had my directorial debut for the film called YOSHIKI: Under the Sky, which was just released a few months ago around the world. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do that.
“Well, making a film could seem glamorous, but now having gone through every single part of the process, I respect more than ever all the people involved in making the film, and the incredible sacrifice that goes into it.
“Again, I’m so grateful to be given the opportunity to direct the film. And you know what? It’s kind of addictive. If I may say, my next documentary and narrative films might be on their way.
“Two months ago, I completed my classical world tour at venues including Royal Albert Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York, and Dolby Theatre here in Hollywood.
“During that world tour, I dedicated it to my loved ones passing. My mother, my father, and my dear band members Hide and Taiji.
“As soon as that tour was over, I got the news from Japan that one of my band members passed away.
“I still don’t know how to deal with these kinds of feelings or how to deal with this loss, as the son of my parents, and as the leader of the band X Japan, especially thinking about my fans. I don’t know how to deal with this pain.
“This year, on January first, came more sad news, a huge earthquake struck Japan. It hits me so hard. I’d like to share this moment with those who are mourning loved ones lost.
“If I may, I’d like to take the opportunity of this special event to give something back, as I’ve done before.
“Today I decided to donate my crystal piano and put it up for auction, with all proceeds going to the victims of the earthquake. As I donated and supported several times over the past decades.
“To be honest, it’s really hard to make it day by day. You may feel it in my handprints. Sometimes my hands feel very fragile, sometimes my hands feel very strong. So as my heart.
“I have been going through some kind of mental upheaval, but my fans have been supporting me and bringing me back to a positive place, so I’m still making it through every day.
“Let me talk one more time about my film YOSHIKI: Under the Sky. The title of the film means…even though the people closest to my heart went up to the sky, I am still here…we are still here…still living here, under the sky.
“I’m telling myself, we should live as much as we can. We should live for them.
“When you come here, place your hands on my handprints. You may notice they may not be that big. But small hands can do big things, make somebody’s dreams come true, and help to lift up people’s spirits in need.
“I hope that anyone who comes here can look down at these prints of all these amazing stars – and then look up to the sky – to find hope and inspiration, and your loved ones watching you from the sky.
Thank you for this beautiful moment. I love you all.”
YOSHIKI – who just donated 10 million yen to support victims of the Noto Earthquake in Japan – also announced that he would donate his beloved crystal piano for auction, with all proceeds going to provide further support to the areas affected by the disaster.
The donation is scheduled to begin January 12 at 12:01am (Japan time) and end on January 16 at 11:59pm.
Due to the positive response to YOSHIKI’s announcement, there was an instant surge in worldwide interest for the upcoming auction. However, Yahoo Auction requires that bidders be residents of Japan in order to control the collection of funds.
YOSHIKI’s acclaimed directorial debut film YOSHIKI: Under the Sky will begin streaming in the U.S. through Magnolia Home Entertainment under their Magnet Label on TVOD in March 2024 and SVOD in May 2024 on Amazon Prime Video. International streaming details will be announced soon.
YOSHIKI: Under the Sky gathers an extraordinary collection of international artists for an emotional journey through the pain of losing loved ones and uniting globally through the healing power of music. Shot in Germany, Beijing, Tokyo, and LA, the film features interviews and performances from The Chainsmokers (USA), St. Vincent (USA), Scorpions (Germany), Sarah Brightman (UK), Nicole Scherzinger (USA), HYDE (Japan), SUGIZO (Japan), SixTONES (Japan), Jane Zhang (China), and Lindsey Stirling (USA), as it crosses international borders and celebrates an array of diverse voices coming together at a time of universal upheaval.
The film is produced by Emmy Award winner Sid Ganis (Iron Man, Akeelah and the Bee, The Making of Raiders of the Lost Ark), Emmy Award winner Mark Ritchie (Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé, The Big Steppers Tour: Live from Paris), along with consulting producer Stephen Kijak (We Are X, Stones in Exile, Scott Walker: 30 Century Man) and directed by YOSHIKI – composer, drummer, pianist, and leader of rock bands X JAPAN and THE LAST ROCKSTARS. The project is the artist’s first feature film as director and was conceived during the pandemic when musicians could not connect with their fans. YOSHIKI: Under the Sky premiered in New York, Tokyo, London, and Los Angeles, followed by showings in over 130 theaters in the U.S., Europe, and Japan.

The concert reunited the superstars after they were featured in the documentary YOSHIKI: Under the Sky. On stage, St.Vincent said of YOSHIKI, “I was really surprised that just one person could have so many talents. He was unbelievable. He is a wonderful artist and composer.”
YOSHIKI also performed his historic concerto “Anniversary”, originally composed for the 10th anniversary of the Japanese Emperor’s enthronement. Another highlight was the moving ballet performance.
YOSHIKI also performed a unique and physically-demanding drum solo that shocked the audience, leaving them on the edge of their seats as YOSHIKI then dramatically switched from drums to piano. He closed the concert with his signature song “Endless Rain”, during which the entire audience tearfully sang along.
Due to high demand, YOSHIKI’s performance at Royal Albert Hall was live streamed globally by premiere platforms On Air and WOWOW. The stream is available to experience this historic event.

ROYAL ALBERT HALL
The Royal Albert Hall is the world’s most famous stage. Throughout its 152-year history, it has welcomed a who’s who of world-renowned figures: artists, athletes and activists. No other place on earth has played host to Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein and Muhammad Ali; Ella Fitzgerald, The Beatles and Adele. This was the Suffragettes’ “temple of liberty” – the site of Votes for Women rallies that helped change the course of British history – the home of the Stonewall concerts, and a place of celebration during Nelson Mandela’s state visit. But its eccentric history has also seen it used for a séance, an indoor marathon and the world’s first bodybuilding contest (judged by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle).
In an ordinary year, the Hall’s extraordinary auditorium presents around 400 world-class events: encompassing rock, pop and classical music, theatre, dance, films, Cirque du Soleil and sport. It typically welcomes 1.8 million visitors a year, while its 1,000 events in secondary spaces help to attract a young, diverse audience. Its Engagement programme includes music therapy, concerts in the community, and workshops with A-list artists, often in collaboration with other charities, such as Nordoff Robbins and Music for Youth.
YOSHIKI Makes History as First Japanese Artist to be Honored by TCL Chinese Theatre with Handprint and Footprint Ceremony in Hollywood
Introduced by Gene Simmons, Lee Byung Hun, and Guy Oseary, International Music Superstar Yoshiki Pays Tearful Tribute to His Mother
International music superstar YOSHIKI fought back tears as he spoke before global media and hundreds of fans at the TCL Chinese Theatre on September 14.
YOSHIKI made history by becoming the first Japanese artist to be immortalized in cement since the theatre began this Hollywood tradition in 1927.
YOSHIKI is one of just over 300 artists in the nearly 100-year history of the iconic Chinese Theatre to receive this prestigious honor. He was selected as “one of the most influential musicians and composers in Japanese history” and in recognition of his achievements in music, fashion, and film over the last 30 years, as well as for his continued philanthropic efforts.
Introduced by Gene Simmons of KISS, award-winning actor Lee Byung Hun, and legendary music executive Guy Oseary – YOSHIKI thanked his fans and friends for their support and expressed gratitude to his mother, who passed away last year.
YOSHIKI said, “I want to dedicate this moment in my life to my beloved mother who always believed in me. She was the very first person to see my hands and feet, and now she can see them from the sky, looking down here at Hollywood.”
After placing his handprints and footprints in cement on Hollywood Boulevard, YOSHIKI surprised everyone at the ceremony by pressing his signature drumsticks onto the surface, making his impression even more unique.
YOSHIKI’s ceremony was one of the most highly attended public events in the history of the Chinese Theatre, and the media seats were filled to maximum capacity for this once-in-a-lifetime event.
Hundreds of fans gathered at the safety barricades placed along Hollywood Boulevard to watch the historic moment. Local police came close to shutting down the event because of the overwhelming number of people trying to view YOSHIKI’s appearance.
The TCL Chinese Theater released a statement: “It was an honor to host the great Japanese musical artist YOSHIKI for a world-famous handprint-footprint ceremony. It was a great testimony to his celebrity and worldwide appeal that so many media crews descended upon our Hollywood forecourt for a fitting and highly successful event. It is a timely recognition of his amazing scope of talent.”
YOSHIKI’s feature documentary film YOSHIKI: Under the Sky had its L.A. premiere at the Chinese Theatre later that evening. The film is YOSHIKI’s directorial debut, and features powerful live performances by The Chainsmokers, St. Vincent, Sarah Brightman, Scorpions, Jane Zhang, Lindsey Stirling, Nicole Scherzinger, and more.
Following the ceremony and premiere, a reception was held at the JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles Salon, hosted by Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles Kenko Sone. YOSHIKI was praised for his artistic achievements and commitment to charity.
YOSHIKI said, “It might sound cliché, but music can unite us. I want to spread more love in this divided world.”
YOSHIKI’s upcoming classical tour “REQUIEM” is dedicated to his late mother. The world tour will begin in October with orchestral performances in New York (Carnegie Hall), London (Royal Albert Hall), Los Angeles (Dolby Theatre), and Tokyo (Garden Theater). This tour will be the first time a Japanese artist has headlined all these historic venues.
