Tomomi Nabana (vocal & guitar) Formed in 2001 by guitarist/vocalist Tomomi Nabana, detroit7 released their first album Ordinary Madness in 2002. The following year, the band released the maxi-single tales of… and built their reputation as the opening act for Tamio Okuda, Teenage Fanclub, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Inbetween tours, they continued writing and recording 2003’s mini-album Vertigo and finished the year performing at the prestigious COUNTDOWN JAPAN 03/04 concert. In 2004, detroit7 toured Japan with Shonen Knife and was invited to return to COUNTDOWN 04/05. In 2005, they performed their first one-man live show “1LOVE, 1LIVE” at Tokyo’s Club 251, toured as the opening act for Manic Street Preachers, and participiated in multiple summer music festivals, SUMMER SONIC ’05, RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL, and MONSTER BASH. detroit 7 recorded back-to-back releases in 2005, detroit7 EP Vol.1 and detroit7 EP Vol.2, and made their thrid appearance at COUNTDOWN 05/06. 2006 began with the “FULL DRIVE 06” tour with HIGH VOLTAGE, and their cover of “Rape Me” for the NIRVANA tribute album “ALL APOLOGIES.” At the end of 2006, detroit7 performed as the opening act for Graham Coxon (BLUR)’s Japan tour, and release their full album GREAT Romantic. In 2007, detroit7 toured with Japanese punk bands Sparks Go Go and Go!Go!7188. In 2008, they embarked on a 7-city tour of America headlining the Japan Nite Tour, including a stop at American music festival SXSW, and released the mini-album “Third Star from the Earth.” 2008 saw the beginning of their self-produced event “DETROIT ROCK CITY Vol.01” at Shibuya’s Chelsea Hotel, followed by 2009’s “DETROIT ROCK CITY Vol.02.” In 2009, detroit7 released their first USA album detroit7, compiled from songs on Third Star from the Earth and their Japanese major-label release Black & White from Victor Music. They toured America once again as part of the Japana Nite Tour, followed by the “Black & White WORLD TOUR 2009” (7 countries, 31 cities). In August 2009, they performed at the RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL, “DETROIT ROCK CITY Vol.03,” and COUNTDOWN JAPAN 09/10. 2010 delivered the mini-album FRESH “Best” album FEVER, and the full album NUDE, with tours of Japan (including HIGHER GROUND 2010 and RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL 2010) and Europe (2 countries, 14 cities). In 2011, detroit7 celebrated their 10th anniversary with a special “Detroit Rock City” event at Ebisu’s Liquid Room with guests HiGE, SOIL & “PIMP” SESSIONS, HINTO, and Tamio Okuda. Other 10th anniversary events included “DETROIT BATTLE CITY” with guests SPARKS GO GO, Electric Eel Shock, unkie, BO-PEEP. and one-man shows “DETROIT BIG CITY” in Tokyo, Osaka, and Sapporo. In 2012, following the departure of longtime bassist Nobuaki Kotajima, the band was renamed DETROITSEVEN and continues performing as a duo. |
